Catching up on numerous signals for our investments themes, models and indices.

For our US readers, we hope you had an enjoyable Independence Day holiday and for those in other parts of the world, here’s hoping the ongoing twinge of inflation has eased some even as the summer humidity continues to rise. Ahead of the holiday, we were prepping for the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy webinar we gave with our partner Rize ETF on June 30 just as 2Q 2022 came to a close. What can happen at times like that is one thing or another can get put on the back burner for a short time, but as things return to normal we can get caught up.

That’s pretty much what we’re going to do with this edition of Thematic Signals+ — get caught up on some signals for our investment themes, models, and indices. And we realize the number of articles may be a bit much, but if we were to parcel them out in a series of updates then we would have another stockpile of signals to share with you. Consider how may have already appeared for Cybersecurity & Data Privacy since last week’s webinar!

One of the wonderful things about thematic investing done right, is there is no slowdown in the signals being sent that confirm the structural changes that our themes have identified. While some, and we’re purposely pointing our finger at you Charles Schwab and your Caffeinated Drinks “theme” that focuses on the global caffeinated industry of coffee shops, energy, and soft drinks, and related companies, look to tap into the hype of thematic investing, not everyone is tapping into its full or proper potential. The result has muddied the waters and led to some confusion while shortchanging investors that could be using thematics to harness the power of structural change to drive alpha in their portfolios over the long-term while digesting a number of signals that offer confirmation and support in the shorter-term.
